New plans for Kingston
Two plans are under development to help chart the future of the Kingston and Arthur’s Vale Historic Area (Kingston).
The site’s Heritage Management Plan has guided Kingston’s conservation and management over the past five years. It is now time for the plan to be reviewed and updated, in line with the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act requirements.
The updated plan will reflect the progress made to date, and set the course for Kingston for the next five years and beyond.
GML Heritage has been engaged to review and update the Heritage Management Plan, working alongside a team led by architecture and design firm Conrad Gargett.
This team will also be developing a Site Master Plan for Kingston which reflects community expectations of future possibilities for the site. It will support specific actions over the next five to 10 years to improve building use and accessibility, site connectivity and visitor experiences.
These two projects will build on community input from previous consultations.
Members of the project teams will visit Norfolk Island in late August-early September for an initial site visit and stakeholder consultations. Further information will be provided to the community closer to the visit.
Norfolk Island community members will have the opportunity to provide input and feedback to both plans through public consultation. Site Master Plan consultation is scheduled to occur in late 2021. Heritage Management Plan consultations are scheduled for early 2022.
