Green waste consultation sessions
The community will have an opportunity to provide your views on the regulation of green waste-burning during upcoming face-to-face community consultation sessions I am hosting on 2 March 2021.
In October 2020, the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Communications (the department) issued a consultation paper setting out proposed reforms to the legislation dealing with fire control in Norfolk Island. The reforms were developed in close consultation with the Chief Fire Control Officer, aimed at enhancing community and environmental safety.
The department received a submission in response to this paper which raised some concerns about how burning of green waste in the open air might be regulated throughout the year. The consultation paper and public submission can be found on the department's website at www.regional.gov.au/territories/norfolk_island/legislation-updates.aspx.
The community consultation sessions will be held on Tuesday, 2 March at 10:30am and 5:15pm, in the Office of the Administrator meeting room at New Military Barracks, Quality Row, Kingston. To register your intention to attend, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org or 23315.
I look forward to seeing you there and hearing your views.
During the same week, Eco Logical Australia will be on island to commence work on the Norfolk Island Fire Management Plan (NIFMP). The NIFMP will provide the overarching framework for managing all fire risks on Norfolk Island. If you would like to participate in any upcoming consultation on the NIFMP, again please contact email@example.com or 23315.
