Improvements to life events registrations

From 1 January 2021, law changes will improve registration processes for births and deaths and make it easier for Norfolk Islanders to register a change of name.

The amendments to the Registration of Births, Deaths and Marriages Act 1963 (NI) update and create a simpler process for registration of changes of name and set out the requirements for the registration of a birth or death.

In March 2019, the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Communications consulted the Norfolk Island community on the proposed amendments. No comments were received.

A fact sheet outlining the key changes is available on the department's website at

Further information is available from the Registrar of Births, Deaths and Marriages at the Norfolk Island Regional Council by phone on (+6723) 22001 (ext. 120) or email to or at the website,
