Local opportunity — Cemetery Bay retaining wall repairs

The Australian Government is seeking expressions of interest from local businesses on Norfolk Island to undertake repairs to the Cemetery Bay retaining wall.

The retaining wall was constructed in 1998 with a timber post-and-plank configuration from locally sourced, milled and tanalised eucalypt timber.

Three of the five vertical posts spanning an approximately 12 metre section of the wall have rotated from their original position and require straightening.

The works will require returning the three rotated timber posts back to vertical, and anchoring the other two posts by attaching tie rods to posts and securing to buried logs (deadmen) placed behind the wall.

Several timber planks will also need to be repaired or replaced and drainage installed behind the wall.

Businesses can express interest in undertaking the project by emailing territories_projects@infrastructure.gov.au by 27 April 2020, and providing a brief outline of capacity to undertake the works, confirmation of relevant insurances (or ability to obtain), including $20 million builders works and public liability insurance, and ensuring the business is available to complete the works by the end of July 2020.

Qualifying businesses will be provided with further information on the tender process by 28 April 2020, including the detailed project specifications, the Request for Quote document, and instructions on how to lodge responses.
