Norfolk Island Air Freight Services
The Australian Government allocated funding in the 2019 Budget for subsidised air freight flights to and from Norfolk Island.
TOLL will be providing up to 20 subsidised air freight flights between 1 July 2019 and 30 June 2020. A tentative schedule of flights is listed below. Note that the dates of flights may change depending on commercial demand and weather conditions. Over winter, demand for freight space can decrease and the frequency of dedicated freight flight services may need to reduce accordingly.
Each freight flight is loaded to achieve maximum cargo uplift. Constraints on the day, such as poor weather on Norfolk Island, Brisbane, Sydney or en route can cause cargo offloads. While this is rare, this means that some cargo may need to be removed to reduce weight prior to departure.
Members of the community wanting to import freight need to get in touch with freight forwarders early to book space. Alternatively, if urgency is more important than cost, a freight forwarder can book freight on to the first available flight at the full commercial rate. That flight could be an Air New Zealand passenger flight or a non-subsidised freight flight. Sea freight is also an option.
Freight flights from July 2019
Note: Due to reduced demand for freight over August and September, TOLL will provide a freight flight every three weeks. Subject to demand, fortnightly freight flight services will resume from October. Should there be a significant increase in demand over August and September, TOLL can schedule an additional service.
