Norfolk Island Air Freight Services
The Australian Government has subsided some dedicated air freight flights so the cost to send freight on these services is lower than normal. Two additional air freight flights have recently been arranged to address freight backlogs. This means a total of nine subsidised air freight flights are being delivered by TOLL between 1 July 2018 and 30 June 2019.
The remaining confirmed subsidised air freights flights to 30 June 2019 are scheduled for:
- Friday 31 May 2019
- Friday 14 June 2019
Members of the community wanting to import freight need to get in touch with freight forwarders early to book space. Alternatively, if urgency is more important than cost, a freight forwarder can book your freight on to the first available flight at the full commercial rate. That flight could be an Air New Zealand passenger flight or a non-subsidised freight flight. Sea freight is also an option.
It is important to note that each freight flight is loaded to achieve maximum cargo uplift. Constraints on the day, such as poor weather on Norfolk Island, Brisbane or en route can cause cargo offloads. This means, whilst this is rare, some cargo may need to be removed to reduce weight prior to departure.
Freight flights from 1 July 2019
The 2019 Australian Government Budget allocated funding for subsidised air freight flights to and from Norfolk Island from 1 July 2019 to 30 June 2020. An update will be provided once the arrangements for those flights are in place.
