About

Under the new Council of Australian Governments (COAG) Council System, a COAG Regional Australia Standing Council (RASC) has been established to support effective planning and coordination across all levels of government on matters affecting regional Australia.

RASC will strive to support real and lasting economic growth in regional communities, through the establishment of national approaches to regional development. RASC will facilitate more effective planning and cooperation across all spheres of government in order to achieve sustainable economic, social and environmental outcomes for regional Australia.

RASC will improve opportunities and services in regional Australia by:

  • undertaking reforms that drive productivity and community prosperity in regional Australia and that are fundamental to national productivity and prosperity
  • developing mechanisms to strengthen and empower regional communities
  • identifying and scoping emerging issues affecting regional Australia for COAG
  • developing cross-governments strategic planning processes.

RASC will work collaboratively with other COAG Standing Councils to promote integrated action for regional Australia.

The new COAG council system commenced operating on 1 July 2011.
