Barkly Shire Council Animal Health Program

Barkly Shire Council

The Barkly Shire Animal Health Program has been implemented to provide regular veterinary services to Tennant Creek, to improve animal health in remote communities through reduction of skin diseases, ticks, worms and other parasites and also reduce the numbers of dogs roaming freely within these areas. It has achieved this through establishment of the Tennant Creek Veterinary Practice, regular casual employment of the local veterinarian and additional support staff for community programs and a strong partnership with AMRRIC and Anyinginyi Health Aboriginal Corporation. The overall program is financial sustained through a levy with local ratepayers.
