Swearing-in of the new Administrator of Norfolk Island

23 March 2012

On Wednesday 21 March 2012, the Governor-General conducted the swearing-in of the new Administrator of Norfolk Island, Mr Neil Pope, during a ceremony at Government House in Canberra.

The Administrator is the Crown's representative in the external territory and performs functions similar to those of a State Governor.

Mr Owen Walsh will complete his term as Administrator of Norfolk Island on 31 March 2012.

Norfolk Island is situated in the Pacific Ocean about 1,600 km north east of Sydney and is one of Australia's oldest territories, having been settled six weeks after Australia's founding settlement at Sydney, New South Wales.
